Immigration New Zealand has updated the Active Investor Plus Visa to introduce Growth and Balanced investment categories, aiming to attract investors who actively contribute to the country's economic development.

On 2 April 2025, Immigration New Zealand announced changes to the Active Investor Plus Visa, introducing two investment categories: Growth and Balanced. The Growth category requires a minimum investment of NZD $5 million over three years, focusing on higher-risk investments such as managed funds and direct investments in New Zealand businesses. The Balanced category requires a minimum investment of NZD $10 million over five years, allowing for mixed investments, including lower-risk options like bonds and certain property investments.

These updates aim to attract investors who can actively help New Zealand companies access global knowledge networks, capital, and markets, thereby enhancing business productivity and job growth. As of 31 March 2025, Immigration New Zealand has received 115 applications under the Active Investor Plus category since its opening in September 2022, with 46 applications approved and total committed investment funds amounting to $594 million.
